Job Summary
In this role you will play a crucial role in preparing blood components and products for named patients, you will validate, label and correctly store blood packs and all related materials, ensuring all systems and processes are followed without exception. You will then ensure all relevant testing has been completed to a satisfactory level before any blood products are released. Taking direct responsibility for maintaining your knowledge of current specifications and guidelines, you will mentor and organise a small support team, offering training and technical advice both to them and to external contacts.
To make the most of this important role, you will have meticulous standards, and you will encourage your team to uphold these values. With good blood component manufacture knowledge, you will be confident operating machinery such as centrifuges, presses and conveyors, and your hand-eye coordination will be exceptional to avoid wastage. You will also be keen to progress your capabilities and will be proactive in undertaking training. A natural leader, you will be enthusiastic about helping your team achieve their ambitions, working with HR to develop their capabilities. Able to review and translate quality data, you will also have excellent IT, verbal and written communication skills. Confident planning your own workload and that of trainee and support staff, you will identify priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be required to :-
- Prepare blood components and products for clinical use according to current specification and guidelines.
- Provide technical advice to all support staff other internal colleagues and external contacts.
- Validate and label blood packs and components for clinical use.
- Assist in the monitoring of blood products and components.
- Ensure standard systems and processes are followed and organise the work of a small team.
- Supervise, mentor and train support staff.
- Work across all areas of Manufacturing and Hospital Services Departments.
- Undertake training for the role and a development programme to facilitate career progression.
You will be required to provide cover in times of operational difficulty
About You
Qualifications –
- Degree or equivalent qualification / experience
- Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development
Experience –
- Knowledge as a supervisor in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment or equivalent
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), or equivalent Systems
