Senior Digital Delivery Manager



Job Summary

Taking responsibility for the safe and effective delivery of highly complex technology change, you will play a pivotal role in connecting new blood testing equipment across NHSBT sites into our national digital ecosystem.

This role is critical to ensuring that laboratory devices are successfully integrated with our core system (PULSE), enabling the secure, accurate and timely transmission of blood testing results that underpin the safety of the UK blood supply.

You will support end-to-end delivery of these integrations; from initial planning and site readiness through to deployment, validation and transition into live service, working across clinical, operational and technical teams.

As a Senior Digital Delivery Manager, you will operate at both a strategic and hands-on level, coordinating national rollout activity, managing suppliers and internal teams, and ensuring delivery is safe, compliant and aligned to clinical and operational needs. The role will require regular travel to sites across England to support deployment, build relationships and ensure successful implementation on the ground.

As a Senior Digital Delivery Manager you will be accountable for ensuring all blood technology continues to operate effectively and continue to support existing services whilst the blood technology strategy is realised through a number of change programmes.



Main duties of the job

The Senior Digital Delivery Manager is accountable for the performance of the team and the effective delivery of complex and high-risk technology change to national critical applications as part of the Blood product centre. The post holder will have strong planning, delivery and communications skills, engaging, building, maintaining and managing multidisciplinary teams and a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The post holder is accountable for:

  • Delivery and performance of the team to progress work and deliver to a high standard, ensuring everyone is clear on the plan on track and working together effectively
  • Management and delivery of agile projects or releases, to deliver a specific product, service or transformation via a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled team, including third-party contracted technology providers, to time, cost and quality.
  • Defining project needs and shape these into a planned, iterative schedule to enable resource to be appropriately allocated.
  • Removing obstacles for the development team, lead a continual planning process overseeing the delivery of all tasks and assigned releases.
  • Working across the product lifecycle to deliver effective change (discovery to live) actively managing and addressing all risks, issues and dependencies and their associated mitigations
  • Ensuring all products and services meet the Government Digital Service and NHS Service Standards and assessments, with successful handover to live at time, cost and quality.
  • Coaching and mentoring both team members and others to apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.


About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of leading and managing traditional and agile delivery teams across the product lifecycle
  • Experience of leading complex technology projects , motivating multi-disciplinary teams, including working with various governance and assurance bodies
  • Understand the environment, prioritising the most important or highest value tasks, managing complex internal and external dependencies
  • Remove blockers or impediments that affect plans and can develop a plan for difficult situations, ensuring teams plan appropriately for their own capacity, providing delivery confidence
  • Experience of building successful delivery teams and managing third-party contracted supplier relationships
  • Knowledge of traditional and agile planning and delivery practices, Government Digital and NHS Service Standards and the wider industry

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.
  • Recognised qualifications in agile and traditional project and delivery management methodology e.g. Agile Project Management, PRINCE2, Certified Scrum Master or equivalent experience in agile project management and digital delivery
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
