Associate Product Manager (Band 6)

Please be advised that we are currently recruiting for three fixed-term positions for a duration of 12 months — two full-time equivalent roles working 37.5 hours per week and one part-time role working 15 hours per week. Please clearly indicate in your supporting information which position you wish to be considered for.

Please note this role offers a hybrid working arrangement; however, you will be assigned a base location, which may be Barnsley Centre, Bristol Filton, Birmingham, Tooting, Colindale, or Manchester. Travel may be required in line with business needs. The base location will be confirmed following the final interview and mutually agreed upon between you and the line manager during the verbal offer stage.

Job Summary

This role is essential to future development of Our bespoke operating software systems and will contribute to the conversion of Delphi applications to C#.

Working within our domain teams as an Associate Product Manager you will support application development and testing within this team, working alongside the Lead Product Manager and Senior Product Manager facilitating and monitoring progress to a wide variety of operational stakeholders.

This role offers a great opportunity to develop your Pulse development experience and skills in a supportive environment.

The post requires significant autonomy and initiative as well the ability to appropriately challenge and influence. The post suits an individual who is confident in their ability to deliver, productive under pressure, takes ownership of deliverables whilst knowing when to ask for approvals and guidance.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you are responsible for actively supporting the safe and effective delivery of technology product change into the live service environment by providing critical specialist knowledge of the technology within the product domains to support the entire software delivery lifecycle (requirements, design, development & testing). Your responsibilities will include:

  • Using extensive operational product skills, user acceptance testing skills with a solid technical understanding of the existing blood technology products and current architecture.
  • Supporting the Lead Product Managers, Senior Product Managers and Product Managers to manage and maintain the product vision, demand management process, product backlog and integrated change roadmap and will champion improved ways of working (e.g. Agile)
  • Acting as subject matter expert to other domains or projects across the business where critical change to blood technology is involved and therefore a dependency is placed on the product management teams product specialist knowledge. (e.g. supporting Plasma For Medicines, Testing Development Programme and Hospital Services).
  • Delivering specialist training in a complex and safety critical context, and will also design such training for others to deliver.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience conducting and co-ordinating user acceptance testing for technology change
  • Strong knowledge of technology products within domain and their business use
  • Have strong knowledge & technical understanding of their blood technology domain application landscape and architecture
  • Expert in defining & communicating outcomes to be met by a product area and its related services, whether these are user needs, technical requirements or business related outcomes.
  • Experience in working with teams and stakeholders to define user stories with suitable acceptance criteria, key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated performance metrics and measures.
  • Working knowledge of Software Delivery Lifecycle
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint)

Qualifications and Training

  • Postgraduate qualification OR Undergraduate degree PLUS significant experience / training OR significant operational experience in a related field equivalent to postgraduate level
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
