Note: This is a national vacancy with a hybrid working option. However, you will be assigned a base location at one of NHSBT's main centers, which will be finalized following the outcome of the final interview.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Services supports patients by providing a diverse range of testing laboratories, therapeutic services, blood stem cell collection and issue, and research and development activities. Supporting this cutting-edge, life-critical science requires a wide range of technology services that need to keep pace with the scientific and medical advances in these fast-moving fields.

New systems will need to be added and existing systems will need constant updating and you will be responsible for these across the lifecycle. There are very few other jobs where you can use your skills and experience to save and improve the lives of patients with a whole range of diseases in the UK and across the world. At this level you will be expected to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to all technology products in Clinical Services
  • Deliver change through a test and learn approach, conducting user research to inform the development of alpha prototypes that can be tested with users before finalising scope and full implementation
  • Have strong communication skills and engage senior stakeholders including members of the Exec Team, as well as managing relationships with third parties, contracted suppliers and service providers
  • Line manage, coach and mentor delivery team, as well as matrix manage a transformation team (team of up to approx. 30)

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Advanced skills in Agile, software development, service design, digital user experience, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing efficient information management and reporting for complex deliveries, including performance tracking and KPI progress reports.
  • Thorough understanding of the routes, options and timescales to procuring services
  • Proven experience of preparing, planning and managing budgets and headcount in Business as Usual and large projects/programmes
  • Experience of achieving understanding and acceptance of complex and controversial information from all stakeholders where there may be substantial barriers to acceptance.
  • Proficient in identifying and monitoring strategic and operational risks throughout the product/service lifecycle, assessing their impact and probability, implementing mitigating actions, and escalating when necessary.
  • Strong understanding of delivery metric tracking and effective methods to determine value, benefits and priority

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Recognised qualifications in agile project and programme management methodology e.g. CSM, CSP, or equivalent experience in agile project and programme management.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
